Plot / summary  (Natalie)

This story takes place in the year 1876, Canada, where a young Chinese boy around the age of 19 wants to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.  After self-studying for 5 years,  he decides to walk into a pharmacy near his neighborhood to see if he can continue studying medicine in a more advanced state.  However, since the workplace is mostly dominated by the white, they are treated unequally. A week later, he finds his work destroyed and burnt by the community he's working with, telling him he can no longer work here. With anger, he walks out to the nearby port, realizing the ballot box that catches his attention is the object that is planning his life out for him.

Scene 2/ Initial accident  (Natalie)

Going to a nearby pharmacy, he is pretty happy that he gets accepted in his dream profession. However, he does notice the weird glances and somewhat awkward environment when he tries to communicate.

He meets another boy, who is only a year older than him and is also indigenous. They talk, and become good friends afterwards. They are always looking forward to seeing each other and chatting about medicine every day.

Scene 3 / Climax 1  (Natalie)

A week later, he and his friend come into the pharmacy without a single thought, not knowing their studies / workplace is destroyed and burnt. After finding out, they are binded with anger.

The community gives them a disgusted look, telling them they are now forbidden to work in this pharmacy ever again. Without providing an explanation, both of them rush out with anger.

Scene 4/ climax 2 (Ishaan)

With a lot of disappointment flowing through their veins, they decided to find a solution to the problem. They tried to find the reason why they were fired from their job for absolutely no reason. So, they started digging into the problem and hoping to find an answer. They first started by asking around,  but people gave them awkward looks and turned away. So, they decided to go back to the pharmacy they used to work at and ask someone there. The pharmacy kept turning them down over and over again, so Jerry threw a tantrum and started throwing medicine bottles across the room. There was broken glass everywhere, so finally the owner - fed up - decided to tell them the reason so they would not make any bigger of a mess.

Scene 5/ rising action (Ishaan)

Soon the best friends figured out why they were fired from their favourite job they had worked so hard for. To be able to work as doctors or have any job, a person must vote.

As fast as they could, the two friends rushed to vote at the voting booth at the other side of town. When they got there, they received angry and disgusted glances from the people around them like before they had met.

They went to hand in  their ballot but were interfered with a problem… They were denied to take in their vote. They got into an argument with one of the workers. The worker explained the government did not allow  Chinese and Indigenous people to vote. Hearing this enraged them both.

Scene 6/ resolution (Natalie / Ishaan)

If they didn't gain justice towards their rights for voting, Jerry was not planning to leave. Therefore, He puts up another scene with the governors and officers, causing all the attention to be put on Jerry. This time, Gerald does not stop him, since he is just as angry

Despite the attempt, he sacrificed his life for his equality. Jerry ends up getting arrested and put to death sentence for the violence he caused, failing to attain prejudice for both him and his community

Gerald then stops by Jerry's grave a few days after his death. He fails to describe his emotions, as he feels both upset and furious at the same time. He swore to his life he would gain vengeance for his dear friend by fighting for the rights he fought so hard for.

Therefore, he dedicates his life to this goal. Months turned into years, years turned into decades. Harold fought valiantly, but was not able to achieve their goal, and died without success…

But… in years to come, their dream came true. In the year 1960, the Indigenous were given voting rights and in the year 1982, all Canadian citizens were given voting rights, including the Chinese people.
